Frequently Asked Questions

  • When should our family begin working with the My College Game Plan team?
College-bound students ideally begin working with MCGP advisors in 9th grade. Our comprehensive program offers strategic guidance to students at every grade level. While many of our families begin the college application process in the fall of junior year, we recommend families begin the college preparation process early on. Why? Early planning alleviates stress later. From brainstorming extra-curricular activities to understanding financial aid strategies, these early MCGP discussions yield greater opportunities.
  • Who should enroll in the 11th-12th Grade My Application Game Plan Premium Package?
Students who desire extra support in the college application process, including athletes seeking guidance in their recruitment. Typically, we meet with students twice a month, providing added individual support with critical tasks, like demonstrating interest to colleges and encouraging the development of standout extracurricular activities. Athletes receive coaching on how to contact coaches and be strategic in their recruitment process.
  • How many students are in each Essay Boot Camp session?
Sessions are capped at 10. We maintain a 5:1 student-teacher ratio to provide personalized, timely instruction and feedback.
  • What are the hours of the Essay Boot Camp?
The Essay Boot Camp is an immersive writing experience with 10:00am - 5:00pm daily sessions including 2 hours of homework each evening. Students are expected to participate in all sessions, Monday through Friday.
  • What support do you offer athletes seeking to play their sport in college?
MCGP advisors bring a wealth of knowledge to the recruiting process for our clients. We have coached in the DI ranks, are former DI intercollegiate athletes ourselves, and have run sports clubs and programs. We have helped dozens of student-athletes gain a roster spot in college. From Ivy League football to swimming and diving, we help student-athletes pursue their dream: playing intercollegiate athletics.
  • Do I need to participate in MCGP as a 9th or 10th grader to enroll in the comprehensive application program in 11th-12th grades?
No. While we reserve space for our 9th and 10th grade clients in the 11th -12th grade program, we are happy to work with clients at any point in the process PRIOR to the summer of a student’s senior year.
  • We do not live in Seattle or the Bay Area.  Can we work remotely with you?
Yes! We operate in-person and virtually. Via our digital management system -- Custom College Plan -- and Zoom, we are able to connect and communicate easily. We make it simple to follow your child’s progress with accessible notes, college research, scheduling, and essay feedback and completion.
  • My student is busy.  I am too!  Do MCGP advisors/coaches offer evening or weekend meeting times?
Yes! While our official business hours are weekdays 9:00-5:00, we can arrange to meet with you evenings and occasional weekends. We look forward to meeting with you when it works best for your family.
  • I am a current client. How do I access my Custom College Plan (CCP) Account?
